ABSTRACT

The influence of the United States upon Russia began long ago and directly or indirectly introduced into Russia a vast assortment of American values, making them an organic part of Russian culture and thereby tangibly shaping Russian life and society. The impact of the United States upon the sociopolitical life of Russia has been due not so much to any active or deliberate effort on the part of this country, as to the "catalytic effects" of the very existence of America's system of sociopolitical organization. Spiritual congeniality between the two nations is responsible for the extensive diffusion and popularity of American literature in Russia. Each of the two cultures has notably enriched the other; each has given the other a series of true and magnificent values that have become an organic part of the life and culture of the two nations.
