ABSTRACT

The men of Hadug Kordz were deeply affected by events in the Republic of Armenia, so much so that these events are frequently referred to in the letters, especially those written by Garo and Natalie. Jack Danielian had informed the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) of Tehlirian's determination to be an avenger, and the ARF approved his request to do the work of Haduk Kordz. Natalie is furious here that non-Hadug Kordz expenses were expected to be paid with dollars allocated to Hadug Kordz. Teh-lirian did have help locating and identifying Talaat, but obviously, the leaders of Hadug Kordz wanted to keep these men as far away from the Germans as possible. It is hard to interpret whether Natalie feels alone only because he does not share the values and methodology of the Armenians around him in Europe or whether it is because he cannot share with them the work of Hadug Kordz—perhaps both.
