ABSTRACT
Polyphemus was a Cyclops, one of the brood of oneeyed giants that Poseidon had fathered. He and his brothers lived a simple shepherd’s existence on the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily. One day he caught sight of the sea nymph Galatea “milk-white” playing with her sisters and fell in love with her.
