ABSTRACT
A region in transition, developing, modernizing and building the foundation for its own renaissance, the Arab world, with its vast natural and human resources, is capable of achieving progress. The Arab region is a rich blend of many and diverse influences. It treasures a great heritage, and throughout its history, was home to various ethnic, linguistic and religious groups. Islam and the Arabic language constitute its two predominant cultural features. The fundamental tenets of Islam, and the richness of its teachings strongly advocate for the culture and achievement of peace. Islam helped in the preservation of the teachings and knowledge of other civilizations and cultures, and contributed in the genesis of the renaissance. To promote a culture of peace, the world does need a sound process of reform and just solutions to the major political problems, especially those threatening regional and international peace and security.
