ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a problem somewhat similar, namely : Are the curves of art development in general, and of the specific arts in particular, essentially the same in various cultures? During these years even many partisans of what may roughly be called the creatively recurrent interpretation of the direction of sociohistorical processes have also believed, in the uniformity of the "curve" of cultural development in general, in various societies. The claim advanced by those holding such theories seems to be worthy of more serious consideration that the art systems of various cultures have same or similar curves of development : origin, growth, and decline; or childhood, maturity, and senility. The situation is different with all theories of uniform development in art which are supported by a solid factual substantiation and corroboration of their general contentions. There are numerous other theories of the uniform development of art among various peoples and cultures.
