ABSTRACT
Aging, Status, and the Sense of Control (ASOC) Survey is a national telephone probability sample of US households. The ASOC survey had two subsamples designed to produce an 80 percent oversample of persons aged 60 or older. The main sample drew from all households; the oversample drew only from households with one or more adults aged 60 years or older. Community, Crime, and Health is a probability sample of Illinois households with linked census tract information, based on addresses. Census tracts are the best approximation of neighborhoods. Where tract information was missing, and used zip codes. Respondents were interviewed by telephone and were selected into the sample by random-digit dialing. Random-digit dialing was used in Chicago and surrounding suburbs, and systematic random selection of numbers from current telephone directories was used in other areas of the state. Random-digit dialing ensures the inclusion of unlisted numbers.
