ABSTRACT

Sociological analysis has dealt with the widest range of “social problems,” so there is hardly a sociopolitical dilemma to which sociological thinking has not been applied. But the “social problem” of the social construction and the reconstruction of the “urban community” has been one of the central and persistent focal points. If one seeks to assess the consequences of sociological analysis on institution building, then the accomplishments and limitations of community sociology and urban sociology are of paramount significance. The term “community organization” with its varied content is one link between academic sociology and the related issues of public policy. 1
