ABSTRACT

The SYMLOG System is a theory of personality and group dynamics integrated with a set of practical methods for measuring and changing behavior and values in a democratic way. SYMLOG theory is a comprehensive integration of findings and theories from psychology, social psychology, and sociology. The design of the field diagram is a representation of a total theoretical space in which all possible types of behavior and values in groups can be represented. This spatial framework is called, metaphorically, the group space. The Line of Balance is the long dashed line between the Reference and Opposite Circles. It marks the dividing line, the no-man's land, between the two sides in a polarized struggle. The dotted circle in the center of the Overlay is the Swing Area. It encloses an area between the Reference Circle and the Opposite Circle, lying partly within the marginal area of each.
