ABSTRACT

The total set of interacting influences in the social-interaction system, and in each individual personality, is assumed to create, or activate, a dynamic field of values and value conflicts and congruences in the minds of participants. The patterns of the locations of the images on the Field Diagram represent our picture of the real system field for a particular group and Image. The SYMLOG measurement system can be used to produce a Field Diagram, a flat projection of the three-dimensional intercorrelation space. It is possible with the SYMLOG measurement system to locate the group-average perception of a group member, for instance, a member who has been assigned the code name TED. The Field Diagram facilitates a number of tentative predictions about TED, as a person, and his relationships to other members in the group. If there are enough circle images on the Field Diagram, one sees some variety of a pattern of unification and polarization.
