ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses four orthogonal factors. All four factors, and a number of the combinations of them, can be measured reasonably well with the items available. Four factors include "Agreement with Value Statements in Favor of Acceptance of Authority", bipolar, "Agreement with Value Statements Favoring Equalitarianism" and agreement with equalitarianism. Value Content Analysis (VCA) was of great importance to the eventual development of social-interaction systems theory. It made possible an immediate classification and recording of the value content of statements made by a specific group participant at the same time that the overt behavior was classified and recorded by Interaction Process Analysis. The group member originating a value statement and the person to whom the statement was addressed were recorded. By the use of VCA in real-time observation along with Interaction Process Analysis, "values" are brought down to earth and anchored to the specific contending persons and their specific "bones of contention."
