Categorization and Quantification in Comparisons of Southeast Asian Civil-Military Relations

The present chapter is intended to explore two alternate modes of descriptive analysis-categorization and quantification-and relate them to aspects of civil-m ilitary relations in Southeast Asia. Together they constitute a step toward systematic generalization intended, in turn, to permit hypothesis-testing and theory-build­ ing.
