ABSTRACT

The greatest opportunity for reclaiming a commitment to authentic Catholic teachings on Catholic campuses remains within the pro-life arena. To create a culture of life, faculty must once again be willing to confront the culture of death within their classrooms by making a commitment to teaching the truth through education on natural law. Beyond the Cardinal Newman initiatives, students are leading the rediscovery of the Catholic mission at DePaul University–the site of the first queer studies minor in Catholic higher education. The 2007 spring semester brought hope for a newly renewed attempt to recover a new respect for Catholic teachings on sexual morality as a few more college presidents and provosts have barred performances of The Vagina Monologues on their campuses. A Catholic college that holds a "Drag Ball" or a "Coming-Out Week" to celebrate the homosexual lifestyle, or that gives an honorary degree to a notoriously pro-abortion politician bears false witness to the truth.
