ABSTRACT

Cognition means "how information is processed and manipulated in remembering, thinking, and knowing". Cognitive psychologists study how people process memories in adapting to their world. Computers stimulated the growth of cognitive psychology because its psychologists saw an analogy between computers and human brains. The thinking that managers do on a daily basis in a business organization is generated by concepts that become grouped together with other components to form an original idea. Holmes' recognition of competition for ideas in the marketplace, and his concept that ideas either flourish or die according to the extent of their truth, was surely derived from Darwin's theory of Natural Selection. As a problem-solving strategy, subgoaling means defining and setting intermediate goals that place individuals in a firmer position from which to appraise the final objective with its inherent solution to the problem. An important attitude toward problem solving is continually to think and rethink and redefine the problem.
