Everyone in a business needs to know what marketing is and does, particularly those who come into direct contact with consumers: from receptionists to salespeople, from CEOs to sales managers and advertising agencies. Electric-powered typewriters were introduced in 1925 but proved to be disappointing, largely because of the Great Depression. Hiring and managing a diversity of skills and personalities with different experience and attitudes also means inviting new ideas from everyone and being open minded and positive when receiving them. Business employees work from nine-to-five, after which they can rush home gleefully to enjoy an evening of leisure. Trade unions have had their ups and downs wherever workers attempted to improve their conditions and pay by the weight of group bargaining. The Economist described it as "reshoring manufacturing" and reported that a growing number of American companies were now returning home.
