ABSTRACT

Many specific aspects of sectarianism, expressed in extremely rough form, can be easily explained through unintentional suggestion, mutual suggestion, and auto-suggestion. It is doubtless that in the incidents in Ternov the role of the main leader was played by Vitaliya, who, initially acting according to a belief, strengthened herself considerably in the preaching role by means of auto-suggestion. The fearful story ultimately testifies to the strength of suggestion which, under favorable conditions, acts literally against and in contempt of rationality, as is easy to convince ourselves from these related facts. Equally, the self-destructive incidents among sectarians which occurred earlier can be adequately explained only with the help of suggestion and mutual suggestion. In some cases can be found suicides of two or three people, where the point is suicide by mutual suggestion or by imitation. Even various suicide epidemics of larger or smaller size can be encountered.
