ABSTRACT
The role of firearms in violent crime has been a longstanding concern of criminologists International comparisons strongly suggest that the high rates of homicide in the United States are largely attributable to widespread gun ownership (Zimring and Hawkins, 1987). Guns also play a part in much other violent crime. They enable robbers to attack defended targets and are a major cause of robbery killings in the United States.
