ABSTRACT
The colorful New York governor, Al Smith, used to say that nothing un-American can stand the sunlight. With a Smith-like faith, I once cherished the naive hope that perhaps the act of exposing lobbying with federal dollars might put into motion a series of events that would lead to its abolition.
