ABSTRACT

This chapter describes patterns of life satisfaction, mental health, social support, and mental health services in Vatik. The purpose is to make a reasonable estimate of the kinds of dissatisfaction in the community and to determine if particular groups in the population are disenfranchised in terms of some psychological disturbances in their lives. The chapter provides several aspects of personality in Kibbutz Vatik to gain a general picture of "the underlying motivational structures or overt behavior patterns that characterize individual humans" in the community. It explores integrity by examining: Diversity and similarity in the meaning system of the members and how that fits with the nature of the kibbutz as a social institution, and Outcomes of kibbutz identity: life satisfaction, mental health, ego development. Kibbutz Vatik emerges from our examination of personality issues, life satisfaction, and mental health as a community with a diverse population that deals with personality, self-development, and meaning systems to encourage that diversity.
