ABSTRACT

Scientific method was the constantly used tool not alone in the science laboratories. The experiment in education, an enormous amount of systematized, scientific knowledge has been made available. The type of scientific material chosen and the method of its teaching were always dependent upon the psychological age of the child. The children carried on their work by discussion, written papers, assigned reading and construction of putty relief maps of the chosen localities. In school the scientific subject-matter, both as method and as an organized body of tested facts and concepts, was regarded as the child's means to a constant process of discovery and accomplishment in all areas of the experience. The choice of the subject-matter for cooking in the school was always in direct relation to an occasion of great importance to every one—the group luncheon. Cooking involved fundamental relations to the physical and social environment and gave a reason for the study of geography, of plants and animals.
