ABSTRACT

PHYSICAL anthropological measurements of the Dugum Dani were not made, and there is only scanty information on other Dani groups. Van den Broek, using materials from the 1909 Lorentz Expedition, attempted a physical anthropological description of the people of the Oroh Valley (1913a), called Pesegem, Morup, and Lokmere, all of whom are probably Southern Dani. Van den Broek also studied the skeleton of a Papuan who was killed in an attack on the Lorentz base camp. At the time it was thought that this man was a Pesegem, but Franssen Herderschee, who visited the area four years later, re ported that he was probably of the Util group (1913b.T4). It is not known if the Util are also Dani.
