ABSTRACT
W e must also consider the native perception of the environment. This is ultimately of more cultural significance than the scientific perception. The scientifically described environment is useful for understanding in broad terms the limitations or the possibilities of the environment, stripped of all cultural meaning. But here we are interested in the culture of the Dugum Dani and in the environment as i t forms a part of that symbolic system that we call culture.
