ABSTRACT

The sciences which deal with inanimate nature, physics and chemistry, have outstripped the sciences which deal with animate nature, biology and psychology. In consequence the atomic bomb is in the hand of a superficially civilized savage who is somewhat restrained by the pressure of custom and the teachings of religion. This chapter shows that human race is an unsuccessful experiment which is nearing an unhappy end. Great Britain and Canada participated in the production of the atomic bomb. The hostility of the people of the United States to Hitler's Germany, like hostility to the Kaiser's Germany in the First World War, was based both on moral grounds and on the conviction that it was contrary to the vital interests of the United States. The vital interests of the United States, which led President Franklin D. Roosevelt to extend aid to the Soviet Union, might after a time be threatened by Russians instead of Germans.
