ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book comprises a collection of some of Dabashi's writings on and about the Iranian June 2009 election, its tumultuous aftermath, and the characteristics and aspirations of the emerging Green Movement. It deals with articles in which the nature and political consequences of the Green Movement are discussed. The book discusses the trans-ideological qualities of the Green Movement and evaluates different possible scenarios ahead of Iran. It focuses on the historical political continuity in Iran and explores some of the historically defined characteristics of the Green Movement. The book describes the huge propaganda apparatus of the Islamic Republic which has been at work for the past 30 years and finds similarities in such practices before and after the Revolution. It then focuses on US politics and its relations with Iran and its Green Movement.
