ABSTRACT

The wheel attempts to explain where many of the architects whom have discussed fit according to their respective philosophical niches. Kahn represents the search for order, while Eric Owen Moss seems to advocate a more chaotic worldview where almost any sculptural form can be made into architecture. Among the emerging firms to note are Kieran Timberlake, Steven Holl, and Tod Williams Billie Tsien. In this Wheel of Architectural Influence they fall into the camp dominated by Bohlin, Polshek, and those architects who are rooted in modernism but with a mannerist twist. While Gehry has captured the imagination of the American public, and for that matter the world, through breathtaking structures, and Moss has attempted to eclipse him with his derring-do, the architecture manifested is in the realm of the fantastical. Gehry and Moss are obviously in this camp, hovering on the edge of making fantastical worlds and environments.
