ABSTRACT

AYATOLLAH Ruhollah Khomeini is now dead. The revolution he led into power over a decade ago is still running its course. Its future outcome is not clear, though sooner or later (and probably sooner) we can expect a more moderate, even "Thermodorean" reaction. One thing is, however, clear. Khomeini's legacy will live on in one form or another in Iran, and his impact on world history, in terms of his Islamic revolution, will engage the attention of historians for decades to come. As with Lenin's and Mao's, his revolution bears the unique imprint of his ideas and personality.
