ABSTRACT
In the field of culture-in-personality, hypotheses should be ordinarily put forward with considerable tentativeness. Ordinarily, the analyst is unable to undertake systematic, detailed investigation, which permits him to attach a high degree of probability to his assertions. Therefore, he should not overlook propositions about a culture made by sophisticated or insightful laymen, even though they do not accord with his own observations.
