ABSTRACT

The American democracy was bom in the fiery cauldron of popular revolution against the tyrannical repressions of individual freedoms by a mercantilistic monarch asserting his powers to plan the lives of all his "subjects"—for the common welfare, of course. Powerful is the lure of the torch of freedom in the modem world that all of the counterrevolutions against individual freedom are inspired by the promises of greater freedoms—absolute "liberation." "Freedom Works!" Freedom works for all human beings by allowing them to creatively adapt all of their own strengths and weaknesses to the evolving situations of their lives. The great majority of Americans have always shared this fiery faith in freedom. The counterrevolutionaries then launched a moral offensive against the Systems of Natural Liberty in the very name of freedom, which would supposedly achieve everything everybody wanted at little or no cost.
