ABSTRACT

Chronologically Norman is an adult; psychologically, he is a child, an infant, possibly even a fetus. The evidence of Norman's infantile personality will be considered under the following headings: polymorphously perverse disposition, dependency, identification with children, confusion of gender, failure of control, preoccupation with the body, feminine identification, fetal identification, and externalized superego. In each instance, evidence from Norman's dreams is presented first, followed by the evidence obtained from conversations with him, from hospital records, from psychological tests, and from personal correspondence. Norman's own words from the dream material and the other sources are used wherever possible. Norman has sexual interactions with or fantasies about males and females, adults, adolescents, children, babies, and animals. Norman has a young child's superego and not that of an adult, which is to say that his personality is tainted by psychopathy.
