ABSTRACT

The steering committee organized the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial as a "salute to Vietnam veterans". The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, Gold Star Mothers, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans, and AMVETS all hosted open houses. WA and Vietnam Veterans in Congress convened a panel on Capitol Hill to discuss issues related to Agent Orange. Dr. Lawrence Hobson prepared the proposal that would solicit bids for writing the protocol for the VA Agent Orange study. In a deposition provided to attorney Lewis Milford of the National Veterans Law Center, who later sued the VA, Hobson described the proposal. The rift among the makers of Agent Orange was open and public. However, the consortium representing the veterans felt little cause to celebrate. They had severe problems of their own, and now, more than four years after Victor Yannacone had filed the lawsuit, the case was back at square one in the pretrial phase.
