All seven systems had theoretical origins. Two of the systems (Butler, Rice, and Wagstaff-and Rice's modification-and Snyder) come directly from Rogerian client-centered theory, three from psychoanalytic theory (Dollard and Auld, Leary and Gill, and Murray), and two from theories in anthropology and sociology (Lennard and Bernstein, Matarazzo).
