ABSTRACT

More jokes are probably made about sexual activities than about all other things combined, and no wonder - looked at without the rose-coloured glasses of romance, the sexual act must surely rank among the most comic performances of all time. And sex can of course be beautiful, too, when set in a proper love relationship. But neither tragedy nor beauty are the common coin of everyday sex, and thus laughter is the only antidote to tears. This incongruity of course applies equally to such things as behaviour therapy; there is an obvious incongruity between the divine essence of humanity and the mechanics of giving homosexuals electric shocks whilst they are looking at pictures of naked men. Most arguments about pornographic writings get off to a bad start by phrasing their questions in terms of what is and what is not pornographic.
