ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the reader some kind of shared "reality" about the controversy to avoid an infinite regress of constructions and creations of Late luteal phase dysphoric disorder (LLPDD). The inclusion of LLPDD was "explained" as an inevitable outcome of bureaucratic procedure and scientific truth or method. If the controversy over LLPDD is read merely as an economic justification, a political compromise with women's and feminist groups or as the progressive refinement of scientific-medical diagnoses, then little insight is gained beyond a blow-by-blow chronology. In the "health and mental health domain," LLPDD became the site of contests for professional dominance over the control of health and mental health problems. In the woman domain of analysis, there was a small victory for women in terms of placement of LLPDD in the appendix, and in creating a coalition effective in lobbying the American Psychiatric Association.
