ABSTRACT

An anonymous Parisian who kept a chronicle of events, depicted Olympe's last moments. During this century of great drawback for women's freedom, some texts regarding Olympe were produced, but they give a repulsive image of her, of an example not to be followed. Since sexual relations were part of conjugal duty, there were never any cases of rape between spouses. It took women a long time to hold their heads up high again after the Napoleon Code. Some even showed an inflexible determination in defending the traditional clergy, even organizing illicit places of worship during the Revolution. Olympe innovated with an extraordinary audacity, she was one of those who truly started to make and write our history. The Declaration of the Human Rights of Man and of the Citizen concerned only half of the population, and yet this is the declaration is the basis for our current Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man.
