ABSTRACT

Jacob is a 19-year-old with severe cerebral palsy who uses a manual wheelchair with limited range of motion in his right arm. He easily becomes aggressive and strikes anyone within reach. Because of Jacob's current aggressive behavior, the individualized education program/individualized transition plan (IEP/ITP) team recommends that Jacob be home schooled until his behavior can be curbed or controlled. Jacob's parents want him to be more socially and physically active by getting more exercise, swimming, and recreating with others instead of watching television. One morning, Mr. Wayne arranges to have the physical assessment done. Upon completing the assessment, Mr. Wayne contacts the local university to see if some of the college students might be able to work with Jacob. As a result of the assessments and to be aligned with content standards, the IEP/ITP team recommends that the best option for reaching Jacob's physical activity annual goals is to have him participate at the local university.
