ABSTRACT

Mr. Jacobs is a very good football coach. In his 20 years of coaching at Northwood High School, his teams have won 10 district championships, 3 regional championships, and one state title. Teaching middle school physical education is something Coach Jacobs has to do so that he can coach. He tries hard to teach skills and concepts rather than just "rolling out the ball". He does occasionally make modifications when he feels it is appropriate and not too difficult. Like the time he had a student with Down syndrome in one of his classes. There was also the time he had a student who was Deaf in one of his classes. Skill activities are even more difficult for these students with severe disabilities. Well, it turns out that Coach Jacobs is not the only one who feels these students with severe disabilities should receive at least part of their physical education in a separate, specially designed program.
