ABSTRACT

Human resource students, Don and Annette, had second thoughts about how well suited they were to be leading their respective organizations presently. Annette began to assess her direct reports, searching for a replacement, or even for someone who could do the things well that she felt she needed to improve on. Don was also concerned about his fit to his current role. He was great doing pitches to corporate and foundation CEOs to open their wallets so his organization could do all the good work it was capable of. Don and Annette both requested that Rob provide consulting assistance during the role switch to ensure their organizations did not suffer. When Don and Annette met with Howard and Rob, they also discussed workforce planning. They all recognized that the dynamic environment would inevitably cause organizations to change direction in order to remain effective. Rob and Howard had found their consulting on the job switch project both stimulating and rewarding.
