ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about a story of three graduates, Don, Annette and Rob, entering the human resources field, encounter and deal with workforce management challenges and issues and developing their own professional competence through experience. Don, a director of multinational organization, presented the model, pointing out that it would be used first to execute the merger and to put into place the workforce. Don and a number of those present reassured him that they were going to avoid terminations if at all possible. Alicia, the staffing director, made a request. The grins were widespread among the human resource (HR) staff, since many of them suspected the line managers of being opposed to any HR involvement in "line stuff". Several suggested this was a great start to gaining recognition that they had something to offer to the business. Management said the combined organization will assume a dominant role in the market and that they expect rapid growth.
