ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about a story of three graduates, Don, Annette and Rob, entering the human resources field, encounter and deal with workforce management challenges and issues and developing their own professional competence through experience. Employee relations, human resource information system (HRIS) and HR research will be involved to varying degrees in each of the processes, and the leaders of each of those functions to take a system-wide perspective. Don, a director was curious that nowhere on the HR organization chart did the responsibility for performance management and rewards management show up. The consensus was that an offer should be made to Annette and that if she accepted that she should come on board as soon as she could comfortably disengage from her current employer. The interviewers had discussed the issue prior to Rob's interview, so they were ready with an answer. Alicia responded to Rob by sharing the decision that they needed a new start with Wayne's direct reports.
