ABSTRACT

The CEO called a meeting of his direct reports and their key management personnel to discuss a rumor that Alpha was the target of a takeover, which could be friendly or not. A group of large investors had been working through a venture capital firm to see if there was more value in Alpha than was being realized. Within a month of the conversation, the shareholders in Alpha were made a stock purchase offer they would have been foolish to refuse, and the deal was imminent. The CEO called together the entire senior management group and made it official that their lives were about to change. Wayne Cascio called his management staff together after the CEO's meeting and informed them that he was also going to move out of corporate work. Don Howard and Wayne met with the CFO and the CEO and offered a very different perspective.
