ABSTRACT

The concepts and techniques for analyzing quantitative data and evaluating the quality of research findings are relevant to human resource management (HRM) decision making. The types of quantitative measures and how they can be applied by HRM practitioners must be understood if sound decisions are to be made. Increasingly, HR research is being reported in books that are accessible to those lacking the training in research methodology. A common application of multiple regression is to test the impact of HR programs on protected classes. Practitioners exchanging cards with academics, members of both communities debating what impact the cultural characteristics of the cohort entering the workforce should have on HR policies and practices—all of it encouraging. The HR staff attending the session seemed to be pleased with the guidance on how to better frame their proposals to management. But several were still dubious that they would be given the opportunity to make their case.
