ABSTRACT

The knowledge and skills present in the current workforce should be compared to what is needed in order for the organization to meet its current objectives. The team responsible for evaluating the current workforce against current and near-term future requirements presented a case for reducing the percentage of hires who were new graduates and increasing the percentage that brought frontline experience from government and industry. This strategy was to be in effect for only a year or two, and the focus would be on people who had installed and even designed large-scale software systems for government agencies. The software firm had committed to a focus on e-commerce, encompassing both systems for other business and systems for consumers. Of particular interest was the development of new features that appealed to relatively unsophisticated buyers when they tried to do their shopping online.
