ABSTRACT

Eddie called from Hong Kong to ask Rob if they would be interested in developing a global rewards strategy for one of Zen's Asian customers. Rob came to the rescue and offered to come over with Annette Howard and Pete to meet with the client. Pete and Rob met with Kim to develop a profile of employees who would be selected for assignments in the two new operations, while Annette analyzed the company's human resources (HR) policies for employees throughout the Asian operations. Pete agreed that the philosophy governing the compensation packages would be similar for inpatriates and expatriates. He then explored their treatment of employees across Asia to determine if they needed a separate policy for third-country nationals. Over lunch, Rob, Pete and Annette were educated by Kim relative to company philosophy, culture and policies. Rob showed Kim a model he had used in his university course on global workforce management.
