ABSTRACT

Several of the staff members had worked in private and public sector organizations, and they constantly were comparing life as a practitioner and life as a consultant. The real difference between the competence levels of human resources (HR) practitioners is the richness of their knowledge and skill base, which can be used to figure out what fits. There was a recent study of HR practices that showed there was little progress being made in the function becoming more strategic and less tactical or being seen as a strategic business partner. In order to be seen as a business partner, any staff function should be using all the available tools to improve processes, to include strategy formulation and execution. It is of course necessary to improve efficiency in order to respond to the ever-greater demands being placed on all parts of the organization.
