ABSTRACT

This chapter examines energy management decision making in large multidivisional firms. It provides a descriptive analysis of the main features of the energy management approach of the sample's large multidivisional firms along the six energy management dimension (EMD). The chapter details the energy management decision making system in the two firms which have developed the most comprehensive and systematic approach to energy management. Economic and financial criteria were stressed by all firms as primary: unless an investment met the firm's economic/financial standards it would not be accepted under any circumstances. The chapter focuses on two related components of the energy management decision making process in large multidivisional firms. First one is a description of the energy management decision making system (EMDMS) which has evolved in firms with the most systematic and comprehensive approach to energy management. The second one is a description of the roles, responsibilities and functions of the principal individuals and committees involved in energy management decision making.
