ABSTRACT

This chapter reflects back on the previous seven chapters (5–11) and their interleaving Accounts of Practice, so as to take stock of what has been learnt. Specifically, the intention here is to outline what has been disclosed about the possibilities for a practice-engaged, authentic and missionary account of church for our own time. This is one interpretation of the diverse learning presented and is not meant to be another normative proposal or blueprint ecclesiology. Rather, it sets out to describe fundamental features – or ingredients – for a contemporary ecclesiology disclosed through the voices of practice using theological action research and the four voices of theology. These features are summarised under the headings of edgelessness, fragility and a call to discernment. The conclusions briefly outline the resulting account of church, offering it for further investigation and conversation.
