ABSTRACT

A culture that encompasses art, philosophy, competition, and the development of the self in light of individual selves’ distinct history and potential future in a community of similarly diverse creatively transformed people, underground hip-hop serves as a microverse within a worldly macroverse, equipped with its own values, norms, infractions, and expectations. When one becomes enchanted by the complex, deep, and persuasive culture of underground hip-hop, its hold upon the person is difficult to dismiss, especially those who have been significantly affected by its primordial and consequent kairos in kronos. In the study of hip-hop and religion in academia, underground hip-hop has received little attention. It is the objective of this monograph to provide a much-needed supplement to the hip-hop and religion discussion by addressing the constructively theological and philosophically religious import of the underground hip-hop culture way of life. Hip-hop culture begins, ends, and begins again with a flow.
