ABSTRACT

Illnesses of the 2nd domain, which originate in anomalies in the development of personality and temperament, often produce a more entrenched and enduring pathology than 1st domain reactions. Malignant narcissists who resort to murder for "self-preservation" are often sociopaths, and sometimes psychopaths, and act in ways described under the rubric of antisocial personality. Antisocial personality style is generally construed as a type of antisocial thinking and behavior that colors and dominates a life. The identification of the mental illness that has come to be known as borderline personality disorder emerged from the observations of clinicians that some of their patients did not respond well to the kind of therapeutic efforts that benefit most patients. The myriad manifestations of borderline personality style emerge from a brittle self, an ontic deficit that usually originates in 2nd domain aberrant personality development and temperament.
