ABSTRACT

The increase in the number of large private balls is staggering; more than 250 of these took place this summer, each with 400 to 800 guests. The struggle against such elitist ideas is a long and complex one. There is no quick and easy method of replacing a reactionary government with a socialist one, of replacing reactionary candidates in the Labour Party with progressive ones, or of replacing bureaucratic trade union leaderships by 'working-class leaders armed with a real programme of class struggle'. While the People's Liberation Academy (PLA) is trained as a combat force, it is also encouraged to assist the workers in any scheme in which they can be helpful, which includes industrial and agricultural work. This is a reflection of the employers' attitude to managerial functions, rather than a statement by Lenin. Democracy is a myth while 'ignorance and inertia' allow 'an elitist minority' to control the lives of the majority of the people.
