From the first readthrough of The American Clock we all knew we were on to a winner. The characters just jumped off the page and the narrative was so strong we sailed away. The play was a huge success at the National Theatre. On meeting Arthur Miller after a performance of the play we all behaved like 'groupies', rushing around trying to find 'prop' dollar notes, anything we could lay our hands on, for him to sign.
