ABSTRACT

Summary: By the late nineteenth century, the process of globalization would be characterized by the global migration of peoples. This immigration would occur during a major period of industrialization and urban expansion. This chapter will discuss the following educational changes resulting from global migration, industrialization, urbanization, and the resistance to school segregation and discrimination: Kindergartens; Home economics; School cafeterias; Playgrounds; Summer school; School as social center; The culture wars; Resistance to school segregation and discrimination.
